Following the civil war, Sierra Leone was left severely damaged and the health status of people in the country is still among the worst in the world. In 2009, ECM was created to transform disadvantaged communities and aims to engage in developmental activities for community empowerment, promote the creation of employment, provide health training and prevent the spreading of numerous diseases. It provides basic health awareness sessions with particular focus on TB, HIV/AIDs, sickle cell and malaria. ECM also run a deworming programme to help combat malnutrition in young children, as well as providing Vitamin A and glasses for those with poor sight.
