Sexual gender-based violence is sadly a tragic reality for many girls and women in the sex trade. Through a one-day workshop in Bulawayo, the new peer educators learnt to identify and report violence against them, and what measures to take to try and limit it from happening.
The women opened up about their experiences, with one lady who had been sexually assaulted by two men saying she felt she deserved it because she was a sex worker. She, and other ladies were provided with support – being assured that they are precious, have rights and that all abuse is wrong and should be reported. The ladies were provided with additional online support and linked to local SGBV organisations for ongoing help.
