This January we celebrated and thanked Behie, our first Palliative Care Student Volunteer. She proved to be a great help to our team working with our lymphedema patients. She is currently studying Physical Therapy and has a bright future ahead of her. We are so thankful for her care for our patients and wish her all the best as she continues her studies.
Here are some thoughts from Behie:
"From the beginning, since I attended my first ABC Physical Therapy class, I had the desire to be trained by ABC. That desire was based on the fact that I really liked the way that the trainers explained and practiced Physical Therapy.
When I was offered the opportunity to volunteer at ABC for 3 months in the Palliative Care Center, I was excited. My work was with ABC Nurse Irena and most of the patients there were oncologic patients with lymphedema. Irena was an awesome teacher and she explained to me everything about lymphedema, types of lymphedema, the factors and the way we treat patients. We used general lymphatic massage and lymphatic drainage and I was allowed to work with patents on a case-by-case basis. Also, ABC Nurse Bethany taught me to complete a patient medical chart.
I would definitely work at ABC again if I am given the opportunity. To fellow students & other new Physical Therapists considering an ABC internship I would say, if you want to be a professional in the future...choose ABC to get trained!"
