The mission at Dipalata started in 1937 when James and Edith Geddis began the work after leaving Northern Ireland. Over the years the work grew, and their eldest daughter, Mary, trained as a nurse and midwife. In 1976, Betty Magennis came from Northern Ireland as a midwife to serve at Dipalata Hospital, where she has been faithfully serving for over 40 years. The hospital is an integral part of serving the medical needs of the Lunda people from surrounding villages and has a particularly strong focus on maternity care.
