This ministry in the North Western Province of Zambia began in 2014. While working together at another orphanage, Mel Ferguson and Anita Kasochi prayed for two years about the possibility of starting a home for orphans and vulnerable children that would have at its heart a vision to see those children raised to honour and glorify their Creator. A home where they would be secure, where they would have significance and where they would be encouraged and challenged to become people of integrity who loved the Lord.
Towards the end of 2014 Hannah Gidet also joined the team and in 2015 the Lunga Children’s Trust was formed to hold the ownership of the facilities. Work then began to develop a piece of land into a home in a fairly remote area near the Nyangombe Christian Training Centre on the banks of the Lunga river. Currently it has two permanent houses built of burnt brick and containers, with a metal roof and one temporary house built of mud and wattle with local materials. Purchased shipping containers are also being used as temporary accommodation. Once it has the ability to accommodate all its staff and short-term workers, the Trust will begin to build family units that will enable them to expand the number of children they can accommodate.
