Minority groups, such as Christians, not only live in poverty where disease and illness is ever-present, but also suffer from social breakdown leading to unemployment, alcoholism and domestic abuse. There is limited support available to these minority groups and the government health system is underfunded allowing little support for these communities. Through PRIME, young people from disadvantaged Christian communities work as Parish Community Health Visitors in the community they live in. They provide health promotion, education and physical/mental and spiritual support, while being supported by church-based medical consultancies who act free of charge.
