ACET Nigeria’s enthusiastic team were able to train 77 parents over multiple 5-day workshops to equip them to become peer educators to other parents. Due to additional funds being raised, it was possible for another two training courses to take place later in the year, which led to a further 50 parents being trained. As well as going through the Better Parent curriculum, the parents were also taught how to champion gender equality through materials from the Transformation Masculinities course. This is a topic that the ACET Nigeria team is very passionate about and they believe that many problems in families can start here, with the differing cultural understanding of gender roles.
All of the information the parents learn is then cascaded down to their children to ensure that they receive holistic care, education, health, food and nutrition, shelter, protection and psychological support. The parent educators have so far reached 662 parents in the communities they live in.
