Petru and Tania live in a village not far from our partners in Dancu near the Romanian border. As well as being foster parents to six children, they have a passion to work with the youth in their village. Their lives drastically changed, however, in August last year when Petru was doing some repairs to the roof of his house and fell. Tania remembers that day so well, and recalls it as being the darkest day of her life. She suddenly heard people shouting and ran from her house to see her husband unconscious on the ground. She thought he was dead and cried out to God to help him. The ambulance and fire engine came within 20 minutes and took him to hospital. He had suffered a severe blow to the head and had injured his back. Tania was told that they did not know if he would live, and if he did, he may be paralysed. She was unable to see him at first due to the COVID regulations, but because he needed someone to help him, after a few days she was given a COVID test and allowed to stay with him whilst her mother came and looked after their children.
The doctors suggested that an operation might be possible, which gave Tania a ray of hope, but when she was told the cost of the operation she felt despair as they did not have the money. She thought their only option would be to apply for a loan, but this is not easy in Moldova, and not everyone is successful in getting one. Pastor Slavic recalls the day he went to tell them about the gift from MMN, “They were so overwhelmed with this news. It was the first time they felt that God had miraculously answered their prayers and immediately began to praise him and thank him with so much joy and with tears”.
Petru had the operation in September. He returned home but had to lay flat for several weeks whilst his back healed. At the end of November, he began to mobilise, and is now recovering well. He is progressing gradually, and is now able to walk and helps Tania with light duties around the house. He is a good cook and especially enjoys helping her in the kitchen. This message is from Tania to everyone at MMN: “From the bottom of our hearts, my husband and I want to say thank you to your wonderful organisation for your love, kindness, and financial support which removed a big burden from our shoulders in the most critical time of our lives. Thank you and God bless you”.
