The hospital run a number of medical marathons through the year to serve as many patients as possible and make ample use of the time and medical personnel they have available at that time. There are orthopaedic marathons every two months, plastic surgeries three times a year, paediatric surgeries three times a year and gynaecology once a year. There are then sporadic medical marathons depending on what medics are visiting at that time.
Patients will be assessed and then an operating list will be drawn up and they will work through these cases. It is very intense work and the visitors, plus additional theatre staff needed to ensure the smooth running, all need to be fuelled!
