There are a number of remote rural villages in the Makamure area in Chivi District of Zimbabwe that currently have no access the Primary health care, despite promises from the government to provide a rural health clinic. Plans for a clinic were passed by the authorities but no steps were taken to erect the premises.
In 2018/19 the community decided to take matters into their own hands and work started to dig clay and create bricks for the building work and the structure began to take place. For a number of years Zimbabwe Partnership Trust had been supporting projects in this area, working through a local Charity Fountain of Hope Foundation, seeking to improve the quality of life for these communities. This project was brought to the attention of the trustees of ZPT by our partners on the ground (FHF) and funding was provided for cement rendering on the walls of the building.
In May 2019 two trustees, Roger & Gill Prime, accompanied by Deryck Jones from Bulawayo, visited the site to see the progress of the work and meet with the local organising committee to discuss the needs for progressing the building work. The next stage was to provide roofing for the building and on their return Roger and Gill made this need known. In a remarkable provision from the Lord a gift was received to cover the costs of roofing the premises and the work on roof commenced in the hope of making the building weather tight before the rainy season. Despite delays caused by the economic conditions in the country the work was completed by the local community.
Since then the Trust has provided funding for the doors and windows, plastering and painting, electrical and plumbing installations, all of which have now been completed by the local community and we are waiting for instructions from the health authorities concerning the equipment to be provided so that the clinic can become operational. The health authority have undertaken to provide the nursing staff for the operation of the clinic and our partners Fountain of Hope Foundation are arranging for local doctors to provide additional support for the clinic.
It is a privilege for Zimbabwe Partnership Trust to work with the local community to provide this much needed medical facility, and we pray the Lord will provide the funds to equip the clinic, which we trust will soon be completed and operational.
