34 new clubs were run over the past year by 89 newly trained Esteem educators who reached 958 young people aged 13-18. 48 existing Esteem educators continued to run 18 Esteem clubs which reached 495 young people. The Esteem clubs have been successfully rolled out into children’s residential homes, and 23 of the newly trained Esteem educators were specifically trained to work in these contexts, with a special emphasis on trauma healing and resilience to support the unique needs of these particularly vulnerable young people.

After receiving their training, one Esteem educator said:

“Before the training, I thought STIs were contracted through the toilet. I have also gained more knowledge around HIV – that HIV does not kill, but AIDS-related diseases do. I have also been enlightened about different forms of abuse, and how to safeguard children and vulnerable adults. I have therefore resolved to henceforth protect children, have a more suitable approach to teenagers, be a part of the ACET Nigeria to implement their goal”.
