A big focus of ChildAid through the war has been to try and provide positive distractions for children who are facing extreme trauma. Even simple items like a soft toy for the children to cuddle at night have made a big impact.

A few months into the war, ChildAid reported on the harsh reality of the war in the lives of these children:

And so tomorrow came and together with an equestrian club Children’s Hearts organized some horse-riding therapy for the refugee children. With great joy and enthusiasm, they rode, fed and cared for the horses. For a moment, the children again felt calm and peaceful.

But it did not last for long ... air raid alert once again! They were forced to leave everything and go to shelters. Tears, despair, confusion were in the eyes of every child. They wanted to spend time with the horses even more! Children are deprived of childhood and joy!

The very young have nowhere to hide during the sirens, they lie on the floor and cover their ears. Sveta grabs her kitten and puts it under her sweater and sits waiting for silence. She has scratches all over her body but like all the children she worries about the pets.

This summer a Christian camp was held for teenagers from families with children with
disabilities. Such gatherings are, and will be even more so, vital to keep spirits high, aid confidence
building and demonstrate that God is still on the throne. Such camps will cost around £50-100 per young person.

Please be praying for the long-lasting impact this war will have on the lives of these children, even after the war has ended, whenever that may be. These children have experienced what no child should have to witness – pray for their safety and healing.
