The Shining Star project invites the peer educators and teen mums to learn more about God and to develop a personal relationship with Jesus if they would like to. This is carried out through a number of activities including counselling, devotional time and church services.
13 peer educators received life-giving counselling from Shining Star’s in-house counsellor. Most notable problems included health, relationships, marital issues, social dilemmas, bereavement and finances. Some of the ladies have been referred to other organisations, such as Msasa Project, for further in-depth counselling for specific issues.
In Bulawayo, church services were held at the Ithemba Centre, where ladies do vocational training. One of the peer educators has preached there, which is wonderful! She spoke on the book of Esther, which fitted so well as an empowering message to the women. The peer educators held subsequent services on Wednesdays and have reported that these meetings are making them feel uplifted spiritually.
