The team run a number of camps to assess people’s eyesight and offer treatment to the Tea Garden communities. We received this report on the camps that took place in 2022:
Our team has been working non stop in the Tea Gardens and then transporting the patients to hospital. We have seen an ever expanding volume of children and adults in need. One particular adult eye camp was crowded with over 700 attendee’s, and the number of children now found requiring glasses, rises with every month. We continue to trust God for the resources we need to cover all the treatment and transport for these poorest of Tea Garden people. We are grateful to Ivan and our team on the ground, for their commitment and attention to detail, in every aspect of this work, and the pastoral care that goes alongside it.
During April, May and June, Vision for Bangladesh has sponsored 2 eye screening camps in different Tea Garden schools, with a team of doctors and ophthalmologists checking the eyesight of 397 children. Every child received vital vitamin supplements.
In the past three months we have also sponsored 2 adult eye camps, one of which has really opened our eyes to the great need of the Tea Garden people. In one day at Balishira Tea Garden, a total of 778 patients were screened by the BNSB team. This involved a huge logistical process using all the administrative skills of the VB team and the hospital combined. As a result, 172 patients were diagnosed with cataracts and 80 were transported to the hospital the same day for surgery. The remaining 92 were treated 3 days later. A huge thank you to everyone involved!
Please be praying for this vital work in reaching out to these communities in need.
