Well of Love

The vision for Well of Love was to share God’s love in a practical way with families who struggled alone with the challenges of caring for children with special needs. Below is an except from the woman who helped start the project...

'The work started in our apartment; one bedroom became a training/activity room; the dining room a place for parents to sit and chat, and our lounge used for physiotherapy and other big activities. We were given permission to work in 2001 but didn't get official registration until 2002.

By this time we were already involved in supporting the foster care programme (run by a local church), but had not started our training programme for the Chinese, so each day I would assess children and work with individuals and families myself. The needs were numerous and varied - cerebral palsy, visual/hearing impairment, moderate learning difficulties, and autism.'

We had no idea how we were going to get the Chinese to catch the vision, but of course God knew how to. We were introduced to two young ladies who were part of a local Chinese house church - A and J…Then came H, and at the eleventh hour Ab joined the team, all completing a rigorous 2-year training course. 'Numerous families have been and still continue to be helped, with wide recognition of the work by local officials and others from further afield.

Parents bring their children from all over the province. One father carried his teenage son down a mountain for two hours and then took a bus for a further three hours, then turned up on our doorstep asking for help. Each family has its own amazing story of courage and survival. One mother summed it up: "Now we have a hope and a future for our children.’
