A high number of children are being born in Uganda with cerebral palsy due to women not giving birth in a health facility and having medical staff on hand when issues arise. This leads to a lifelong burden for a child and their family, which in many cases could have been prevented if women were aware of the risks and knew where to go for help before giving birth.

ACHERU want to run community outreaches that will increase the awareness of women of the risks that can occur during childbirth and the life-long impacts for children who don't receive medical attention when it is needed. They will explain the causes and ensure that the women know where the maternity services are located and how they can access them. The team will also build on their existing support for those with cerebral palsy through physiotherapy and play equipment for children.

A reduction of children being born with cerebral palsy and women feeling like they are better supported and have more knowledge about the risks of childbirth. For those living with cerebral palsy, that there would be more support in place to help with their condition and give them more independence.

From 2nd - 9th December, we will be taking part in the BigGive, where any donations for ACHERU can be doubled. Please click below for more information, or you can Donate anytime by bank transfer or online.

Our next prayer event is coming up on Monday 24th November at 7.30pm where we'll be hearing about the work of ACHERU and their care for people living with cerebral palsy.
